Your Vote IS Your Voice

Ballots for the General Election mail next week and voting will run until Election Day, Tuesday, November 8. This election will shape the direction of the future of the L.A. County Probation Department!

Please register/sign up for at least one phone bank and canvassing shift to support Senator Bob Hertzberg for Supervisor or Congresswoman Karen Bass for L.A. Mayor. These campaigns are coordinated with the L.A. County Federation of Labor and will focus on Union households.

A Message from Local 685 President Hans Liang

Brothers and Sisters,

The last few weeks have been very bittersweet. We had a tremendous loss with the murder of DPO II Paula Lind. In the 15 years in the Department, many of us have crossed paths with her. The loss to her family, friends, colleagues, and loved ones has been painful and even though there are no adequate words of comfort, we are here for each other.

Also, after many months of negotiations, letters, and meetings, the County has finally agreed to provide a 20% temporary pay increase above the normal rate of pay for hours worked in the Halls; and double time rate for overtime worked in the Halls instead of the "traditional time and a half."

Lastly, ballots for the General Election mail on Monday, October 10. We must encourage our family, friends, and co-workers to vote for Senator Bob Hertzberg for County Supervisor, who has been a champion for Probation and Local 685 in Sacramento. Hertzberg’s opponent is endorsed by Supervisor Sheila Kuehl, who has been a leader in privatizing our work. There will be many opportunities to participate in Get Out the Vote efforts with the L.A. County Federation of Labor – please join your Executive Board by volunteering today (click here to sign up)!

In Solidarity,

Hans Liang
