This past Saturday, January 11, AFSCME Local 685 proudly supported the brave men and women battling the Eaton Fire by setting up a much-needed coffee station at LA County Fire Station 12 in Altadena. This station has not only served as a critical command post for mutual aid fire departments arriving from across the country and around the globe but has also been at the heart of efforts to combat this challenging blaze.

With the generous support of the Local 685 Executive Board, we were able to provide a complete setup, including tables, trash cans, a coffee urn, coffee, and all the necessary provisions. Firefighters, command staff, and support crews expressed their deep gratitude for this thoughtful contribution, which was tailored to meet their specific needs.

Local 685's focus on providing a meaningful service, rather than simply dropping off donations, has made a significant impact. The coffee station offered a warm and comforting space for crews to recharge amidst their grueling schedules. Firefighters on-site remarked how much they appreciated this personalized support, as it was clear that every detail had been considered with their well-being in mind.

"It’s incredible to see the thoughtfulness behind this effort," said one firefighter from out of state. "Everything we needed was right here. It’s a simple gesture, but it means the world to us during these long, difficult days."

The camaraderie and unity among the crews were palpable, with firefighters from diverse backgrounds coming together to share stories, strategize, and take a moment of reprieve with a hot cup of coffee. Local 685 is honored to have played a role in lifting their spirits and offering a small token of appreciation for the life-saving work they do.

This initiative underscores the commitment of AFSCME Local 685 to serve and support those who work tirelessly for our communities. Whether it’s our members or the first responders on the front lines, we stand ready to lend a hand wherever and whenever it’s needed.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to LA County & LA City Fire Departments and all the mutual aid crews for their heroic efforts. Local 685 is proud to stand with you and to continue serving our community in meaningful ways.

Attention all members on home medical assignments: It’s crucial to ensure your contact information is up-to-date. Many phone numbers on file are no longer working, creating challenges in mobilizing critical resources during emergencies.

To address this issue, please reach out to Deanna Carlisle in Human Resources as soon as possible to update your contact information. Staying connected ensures that you are informed and ready to assist when called upon.
