Executive Board Actions
In an effort to provide updated information to the membership, the Executive Board is taking the following actions:
We have re-established a Local 685 Member Hotline to report factual timely information. The number is 646-653-1917 and the first message will be posted on Monday, March 6, at 6:00 PM (save this number in your phnes).
We are increasing our efforts to communicate with Board of Supervisors’ (BOS) offices to offer member-supported solutions to the juvenile hall staffing crisis and challenges with the SYTF population.
We are requesting BOS support for Assembly Bill 695 (Pacheco) for infrastructure funding to build a state-of-the-art juvenile justice center in Los Angeles County to replace our aging juvenile institutions.
Negotiations Status Report (We Need a Contract!)
Your Executive Board has reached out to all five (5) BOS offices regarding the need to conclude negotiations with the County Chief Executive Office. Our MOU expired on January 31, 2022, well over a year ago.
Unlike most of the County’s 58 bargaining units that have reached a tentative agreement with the County, our bargaining unit has been singled out, depriving our Union’s 3,000 members of receiving the COLA adjustment, signing bonus, and other benefits.
Your Executive Board is well aware of the critical juvenile hall staffing shortage, incoming SYTF population (high-risk youth), and the need to address the safety and security needs of the youth in the custody of the Probation Department. Staff are being asked to volunteer and/or are being deployed or assigned to work in less than desirable, antiquated and prison-like facilities that are not safe.
Your Executive Board is committed to work with the Board of Supervisors to address this situation in a humane, practical manner that takes into consideration the special needs of Local 685 members.
The next bargaining session with the County is scheduled for Monday, March 6, 2023. We will present a Tentative Agreement proposal to the County that hopefully will enable the parties to reach a much-needed contract settlement.
We will continue to keep you informed of the status of negotiations.
Solidarity Forever, United We Stand, We are Stronger Together.
Sincerely,
Your Local 685 Executive Board
We are fighting for you!
