Sisters and Brothers,
Â
Tomorrow, the L.A. County Board of Supervisors will vote on Agenda Item #12, a proposal that directly impacts our rights as probation-peace officers.
Â
These changes are sweeping and serious. Among other things, they would:
Â
Allow discipline to be based entirely on hearsay
Double probationary periods from 12 to 24 months
Double unpaid suspension time from 30 to 60 days
Allow unpaid suspensions based solely on an accusation
Limit your ability to challenge discipline and termination
Â
Let’s be clear: this is a direct threat to our due process protections.
Â
At a time when this Department is facing a severe staffing crisis, these proposals do nothing to address the real issues: staffing shortages, forced overtime, and unsafe working conditions. Instead, they shift the burden onto the very officers holding the system together.
Â
We are pushing back – and we are not alone.
Â
The entire House of Labor is united in opposition. AFSCME Local 685 and the Coalition of County Unions have formally opposed this item and made clear that these changes impact negotiable working conditions and cannot move forward without bargaining.

This vote is happening tomorrow. We do not yet know how the Board will act, but we are fully engaged and prepared to fight this on every front.
Â
Stay informed. Stay engaged. Stay united.
Â
We have your backs.
Â
In solidarity,
AFSCME Local 685 Executive Board
