Assembly Bill 695 (Pacheco), the Juvenile Detention Facilities Improvement Grant Program, sponsored by the Coalition of Probation Unions (AFSCME Local 685, SEIU Local 721 Bargaining Unit 702, and AFSCME Local 1967) was approved by a wide margin today in the California State Assembly. AB 695 now moves to the Senate.

AB 695 aims to address the concerns raised by AFSCME and SEIU regarding the need for safer facilities for officers and youth, as well as teachers and service providers. The bill, if approved, will allocate funds and provide much-needed oversight for state-of-the-art juvenile facilities in L.A. County.
