Dear Members,

The juvenile division faces unprecedented challenges due to decades of neglect by the Board of Supervisors. To add insult, the Interim Chief has now ordered all sworn staff to cover one shift per month.

As our Unfair Practice Charges get resolved, we must do our best to comply with the order. As Local 685 members have proven time and time again, we will accomplish our shared responsibility to ensure the safety and security of our fellow officers and the minors in our care. We continue to fight for hiring more Juvenile Hall officers and improved facilities.

Contract Update

Impasse proceedings for our contract with the County were held on Friday, from 9AM to 5PM. Things appear to be moving forward, and we intend to continue with good faith interactions with the State Mediator and the County. As previously stated, both parties have agreed to confidential proceedings and we will update you when we have specific news to report.

As we have always done, we will stand united, prioritize the well-being of our colleagues and those in our care, and work towards a safer future.

Engage in Union meetings, collaborate with fellow officers, and be the change our division needs. Together, we can make a difference.

Thank you for your unwavering dedication.

In solidarity,

Hans Liang

President
