Probation Professionals: We Need Your Input

Over the past few weeks, I’ve heard from many members who recognize the importance of this research. I’ve also seen a few comments questioning why the President of Local 685 is

conducting this study.

The answer is simple.

This research is focused on leadership, employee engagement, and recidivism in the Los Angeles County Probation Department. Those issues are directly connected to our daily work, our profession, and the future of probation. As your union president, advocating for better working conditions, stronger leadership, safer workplaces, and more effective outcomes for our communities is part of my responsibility. My doctoral research is another way to contribute to improving our profession through evidence-based recommendations, not just opinions.

There is very little academic research focused specifically on probation departments. That means the experiences of Los Angeles County probation professionals are uniquely valuable. Whether your views are positive, negative, or somewhere in between, they deserve to be part of the conversation.

The survey is completely anonymous. No names, employee numbers, or identifying information are collected, and it takes only about 5 to 7 minutes to complete.

The more members who participate, the more credible and representative the findings will be.
